For the first time ever, an Israeli mathematics team has won first prize in the International Mathematics Competition, held this year in Bulgaria. The team, consisting of four Tel Aviv University and two Technion math bachelor's degree students, received 355 points -- 38 more than the second-place group, Eötvös Loránd of Budapest.
The high-level competition has been held annually for the last 20 years; this time, Israel competed againt 72 other groups from universities around the world. The Israeli team consisted of Amotz Oppenheimer, Omri SOlan, Tom Calvary and Yoav Krauz and Nitzan Tur and Guy Raveh of Haifa’s Techno-Israel Institute of Technology l. The team trainer was Lev Radzivilovsky.
