Channing Tatum is set play a young man who becomes an overnight maths genius at the age of 31 after being attacked, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

The Magic Mike star is attached to a proposed big screen adaptation of the book Struck By Genius, by Jason Padgett and Maureen Ann Seaberg. The memoir recounts how a violent mugging changed Padgett’s life forever: he had been an extrovert, fun-seeking college dropout scraping a living as a struggling futon salesman. Following the attack he developed acquired savant syndrome, which manifested via a newfound ability to understand complex maths and physics concepts. Padgett now works as an artist illustrating the complex geometric shapes he sees all around him.

Studio Sony has picked up the rights to Struck By Genius, and the film is being developed as a potential acting vehicle for Tatum. The actor has increasingly been eyeing dramatic roles after making his name in comedy and action fare. Earlier this year he followed up a critically acclaimed turn in Magic Mike with a well-received performance in the Cannes hit Foxcatcher, also a biographical drama.
